Smooth Rock Falls Esso Restaurant Review

Smooth Rock Falls Esso Restaurant aka Smoothy's at 220 Highway 11 surprises many first time visitors.
I know it certainly surprised me.
With plenty of parking for big rigs and a diesel fueling station in addition to the regular pumps, I really should have known, the food would need to be excellent.
The interior layout, may make you expect higher menu prices, but rest assured, prices are about the same as Southern Ontario family restaurants.
This post has my first blink of Smooth Rock Falls Esso Restaurant at 220 Highway 11.

Discovering Smooth Rock Falls Esso Restaurant Highway 11, Ontario 

Smooth Rock Falls Esso Restaurant offers a huge menu selection including two full pages of All Day Breakfast selections.
Despite elevated grocery prices in Northern Ontario, menu prices are on par with most restaurants in Southern Ontario.

This morning, I opted for the Vegetarian One Egg Breakfast.

The Vegetarian One Egg Breakfast includes:

• One egg any style.
• Hash browns.
• Toast - two slices.
• Coffee.

My plate also came garnished with an orange slice. I ordered what is the bane of many cooks - over easy and opted for herbal tea rather than coffee.

My breakfast was generously accompanied by four packets of Kraft honey and a bottle of Heinz Ketchup. I used one in the Higgens and Burke herbal tea and still had a packet left after using two on my two slices of brown toast which was cut into four triangles. 

I really like my toast cut in triangles.

Another pleasant surprise was the careful attention paid to the serving of the tea. Hot water came in a small ceramic tea pot which was placed along with a tea cup atop paper napkins on a plate along with a tea spoon.

Service was fast, friendly, and cheerful.

All the food was cooked to perfection.

Total for my breakfast including tax? $5.64 . ($4.99 before tax)

If you don't order the breakfast with home fries, it is only $3.99 before tax.

For your convenience, you can pay with cash or debit right at your table.

Smooth Rock Falls Restaurant - Esso Decor

The restaurant has two doors - one entry is through the gas station store, and the other to the east side of the building.

On the entry level,you will find:

• three regular sized booths, 
• about 10 tables, 
• a  separate dining room  seating about 8 that can be made private with pocket doors and 
• bar style seating for five. 

The restaurant also offers seating for 12 in a sunken dining area  called "The Dug Out" that has a glass enclosed gas fireplace. The chimney of the gas fireplace has a flat screen TV on each side.

Decorated in the typical bankers green and maple of many sports bars,  it has a relaxed upscale feel with sturdy furnishings. A few black and white photos of local historic buildings are hung here and there on the walls lending local flavour. A few touches of whimsy - a barber pole sign labeled "The Parlour",  a raggedy Andy style smiling autumn scare crow, and a pink rimmed blue sign  with "La Bar" hand painted on it give a homey feel.

On one mirrored wall is an insider secret : Every Friday All you can eat Fish and Chips $13.95 in Homemade Beerbatter.

So if  you're going to be travelling through, Smooth Rock Falls, you may want to schedule Friday at Smoothy's.
